Oita

Oita in Kyushu

There's a long history of tea cultivation in Oita, dating back to the Edo period with pan-frying of tea. The Kitsuki area actually produces some black tea which is quite famous, but green tea dominates productin throughout the region. Large-scale land reclamation in the north of Oita enables the cultivation of Yabakei tea, around the city of Nakatsu. Actually Nakatsu is where we began our green tea cafe experience, which you can read about here.
